Yearly Awards: The best way to say thank you!

Yearly Awards are designed to recognize outstanding leaderships and service within the CAP organization. There are many individuals within CAP who have gone beyond their duty to serve their communities, their initial squadrons, unit, Wing, Region, and National affiliated organizations. As members of CAP, we need to thank them for their contribution and service they have rendered. This is done by submitting CAP members and community leaders for yearly awards, medals, and other service oriented recognitions and achievements. All recommendations for decorations (except the Exceptional Service Award, Meritorious Service Award, Commander’s Commendation Award, and Certificate of Recognition for Lifesaving) should be submitted through appropriate channels, to include region headquarters, to National Headquarters.

When submitting candidates for yearly awards and other recognitions, please follow CAPR 39-3 guidelines, and complete a CAPF 120, Recommendation for Decoration, if specified to do so. Extreme care should be exercised to ensure that all items are complete and submitted to the correct individual or organization for review and processing. Each commander in the chain of command must personally approve or disapprove each recommendation for the award of a decoration before forwarding it to the next higher headquarters (unless the recommendation is initiated by higher authority). If a commander disapproves a recommendation, it will be returned through channels to the initiator with the reasons for disqualification.

For yearly awards the following deadlines are mandated (CAPR 39-3) for submitting awards:

January 15th, 2012: Unit commanders will submit nominations to their respective Wing Commander for consideration.

February 15th, 2012: The Wing Commander will screen nominations from unit commanders within their wings and forward the best nominee to the RMR Region Commander.

March 15th, 2012:  The RMR Region Commander will select the best of the wing nominees and forward one nomination to National Headquarters for consideration.

April 15th, 2012: The National Awards Review Board at National Headquarters will screen nominations submitted by the region commanders and make recommendations to the National Commander. Final selection will be made by the National Commander.

Any CAP member having knowledge of an act or service meriting recognition may initiate a recommendation for an award, except that awards concerning commanders must be initiated at a higher command level or by the appointing authority for NEC members.

According CAPR 39-3: Section - Special Awards and Honors: These are the standard yearly awards that can be considered for recognition on a Wing, Region and/or National level. For further information regarding the awards qualifications and processing procedures, please review CAPR 39-3 prior to submitting the award.
